San Diego, CA- San Diego Mesa College announced Chris Leguizamon (he/him) as the newest addition to its esteemed Fermentation Program. By demonstrating expertise in beer comprehension and tasting proficiency, Leguizamon earned a certification of Advanced Cicerone- the highest level out of four complex and demanding certifications. According to the Cicerone Certification Program, this level of certification requires distinctive expertise in beer, strong sensory skills, and mastery of flavor vocabulary for both technical and consumer audiences.

San Diego, CA. — Today, the San Diego Mesa College Library and Learning Resource Center (LRC) received the 2024 Library Excellence in Access and Diversity (LEAD) Award from Insight Into Diversity magazine, the largest and oldest diversity and inclusion publication in higher education. The LEAD Award honors academic libraries’ programs and initiatives that encourage and support DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) across their campus. These include, but are not limited to research, technology, accessibility, exhibitions, and community outreach. San Diego Mesa College will be featured, along with 55 other recipients, in the March 2024 issue of Insight Into Diversity magazine.

San Diego Mesa College professor, Dr. Waverly Ray, has recently returned from a nine-day voyage from Seattle to Honolulu on the R/V Thomas G. Thompson, an oceanographic research vessel, with STEMSEAS. Dr. Ray joined community college faculty from 13 schools and the Office of Naval Research’s Research Facilities Program Manager Robert Sparrock. Dr. Ray was chosen to participate out of hundreds of applicants.

San Diego, C.A. – An interdisciplinary collaboration of scientific expertise and artistry has resulted in a visually stunning interpretive display in the hallway of the 3rd floor of the MS Building. Led by biology professor Paul Detwiler, the production team included Jenny Armer, Museum Studies ILT in the Department of Fine Art, and Museum Studies students Gaby Espina and Sara Shah. Together, they created realistic models of marine species while also including specimens from the biology department’s teaching collections to represent a microcosm of undersea life.
